Jojo loves Notting Hill

"Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life." Notting Hill holds a very special place in my heart, its unique charm, infectious energy and plethora of wonderful attributes make it a favourite among locals and visitors alike.

For many years it was the place I called home, during a part of my life when excitement and energy were so needed. I may have moved my personal life out to the country, but not my work life, our House Nine studio is still nestled not far from the hustle of Portobello and Golborne Roads. Here are some of my favourite spots, whether you live nearby, are just visiting, or passing through.

01 · Golborne Road

Strolling down Golborne Road, you'll find yourself immersed in a captivating tapestry of cultures, from traditional Caribbean eateries serving mouth-watering jerk chicken to trendy cafes offering artisanal coffee. So many people only focus on Portobello, but Golborne is truly one of the streets you cannot miss.

Start with a coffee and a pastry from Lowry & Baker, my morning go-to when I'm in the studio (try the banana bread). Pop next door to Tada & Toy for beautiful jewellery, then browse design stores like Goldfinger and The Trove. Before you leave, Straker's is an easy-to-miss gem, legendary with locals for fresh, simple, delicious dishes.

02 · Portobello Road

The notorious Portobello Road, not one to disappoint, and a goldmine for antiques and cuisine (not for the faint of heart on a Saturday afternoon). As you walk down from Golborne you'll pass The Cloth Shop, a little fabric store that's hard to leave empty-handed. At the food market, the H9 girls recommend the juice bar, arepas and Turkish cheesy flatbread.

For something sweet, Fabrique, the Swedish bakery, is home to a cardamom and cinnamon bun that transports you to Stockholm, and Buns from Home is another go-to. Dinner and late-night cocktails at Gold are a must, seasonal wood-fired plates in a stunning urban oasis.

03 · Westbourne Grove

If your boots are made for walking, let your feet take you to Westbourne Grove, stunning tree-lined streets dotted with candy-coloured houses. Pop into Daylesford for dreamy homewares, Fara (the best kids' charity shop I've ever been in), Granger & Co for lunch (dare you not to spot a celeb), and Taqueria for the best damn tacos, washed down with an award-winning margarita.

04 · A few extras

For the best Pilates and workout classes it has to be Form. One of London's oldest cinemas, the Electric, is a one-of-a-kind old-school screening spot with leather armchairs and cashmere blankets. For a legendary Sunday lunch, our absolute favourite was the Ladbroke Arms, just before Holland Park. And for a powerhouse coffee kick, Hermanos serves fresh Colombian, another favourite of the House Nine girls.
