The Brief

A retreat,
built to
last.

Ziggy Rocks is a holiday home designed with sustainability in mind: a peaceful retreat for the whole family, surrounded by ancient woodlands. Our clients wanted a space that could be properly lived in, built with quality, natural materials, while still encapsulating the House Nine aesthetic.

With two young children, the family wanted to make the most of their remarkable surroundings, drawing in views of the forest and the old mineral quarry through large glass doors and windows at every turn.

Practical materials and bespoke joinery are paired with timeless, refined finishes for a sense of balance and charm, while warming, calming hues inside gently contrast the cooler greens of the landscape outdoors.

The Living Space

Open to
the woods.

The heart of the house is one generous, open plan space where kitchen, dining and living flow together beneath a shiplap chimney breast. Cane and linen seating, a tan velvet sofa and woven, sculptural lighting keep it warm and tactile, while full height glazing pulls the quarry and forest right into the room.

The Snug

Deep green,
made for film
nights.

Tucked off the main living space, the media snug is wrapped floor to ceiling in deep forest green, with bespoke shiplap joinery framing the screen and a quietly glamorous flower shaped light overhead. Checkerboard rugs and woven ottomans make it the cosy, cocooning counterpoint to all that glass and light next door.

The Clients

The Principal Suite

Olive velvet,
soft wool.

In the principal bedroom an arched olive velvet headboard sits against soft, warm white walls, paired with shearling chairs, a deep wool rug and grasscloth fitted wardrobes. A woven, fan shaped light adds a little quiet drama, while autumnal bedding keeps the whole room gentle and grounding.
