Gara Rock Hotel
The Brief
Coastal calm,
room by room.
room by room.
Gara Rock sits high on the cliffs of the South Devon coast, looking out over the sea. We were asked to bring warmth and ease to its guest rooms and public spaces, relaxed interiors that feel of the place rather than imposed upon it.
The palette is sun-bleached and soft: pale timber, natural linen, chalky plaster and the greens and greys of gorse and water. Furniture is comfortable and unfussy, made to be lived in by guests with sandy feet and salt in their hair.
The aim throughout was a long exhale, somewhere that feels like the coast has come indoors.

The Bedrooms
Wake up
to the sea.
to the sea.
Each room is dressed in soft, natural layers, linen, wool and pale oak, with the windows left to do the work. Calm, uncluttered and quietly generous, they frame the coastline rather than compete with it.

The Lounge
Gather
by the window.
by the window.
The public spaces are built around the view, low, comfortable seating, deep textures and warm light for when the weather turns. A place to settle with a drink as the sun drops over the water.
“They captured the feeling of this coast perfectly. Guests tell us the rooms are the reason they come back.Gara Rock
