The Brief

A first nest
outside the
city.

This was our client's first home outside London, and the brief was a happy one: somewhere practical and efficient for two busy lives, but above all a warm, welcoming space made for hosting family and friends. We set out to make it feel grown up and easy in equal measure.

Soft, natural and warming hues run throughout the house, creating a calming and balancing backdrop that is just as suited to a focused day working from home as it is to a slow Sunday with the kitchen full of people.

Layered antiques, characterful art and honest, tactile materials give the rooms a collected, lived-in feel, so that a brand new chapter already feels like home.

The Kitchen

The kitchen pairs soft, putty grey cabinetry with a deeper blue island and a veined marble splashback, kept light and airy underfoot. Aged enamel pendants and open shelving styled with pottery and greenery give the hardest-working room in the house an easy, unfussy warmth.

The Living Room

Calm walls,
colour in the
details.

In the main living room, sage green bookcases frame a mustard velvet sofa and a salon-hung wall of art, grounded by a faded antique rug and woven jute stools. It is a room built for working, reading and gathering, calm enough to settle in but full of small bursts of colour and character.

The Clients

The Principal Bedroom

Soft light,
a warm anchor.

Under the eaves, the principal bedroom stays pale and restful, then takes its warmth from a terracotta linen headboard trimmed in antique brass studs. A woven pendant, oak bench and layered natural textiles keep it gentle, while sage curtains tie it back to the garden beyond.
